It may seem surprising, but there is a lot to learn about other cultures through animals and their treatment of them. Other popular breeds include Poodles (19%), Pomeranians (11%), and Chihuahuas (10%). Consumers in Korea state that cleanliness in apartment living is one of their top concerns. Many potential owners believe in the urban legend that dogs like Malteses and the second-ranked Poodles do not shed, giving them a reputation of being very clean and easy to care for. The American Kennel Club, the country’s largest registry of pure-bred dogs, reports that the Labrador Retriever was the nation’s best friend in 2021, followed by French Bulldogs, Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, and Poodles. Larger dogs who are able to perform specific tasks are known as “working dogs” in American culture, and are an important part of many rural communities. Dog shows, annual events in which dogs compete for a variety of trophies, are popular around Thanksgiving.
