This essay is part of a series on college and college life. 	You may or may not have seen movies, read books, or watched news about depictions of college life in the US, but, at least in America, college has taken on a culture of its very own. The reasons for this are numerous, but one of the most fundamental reasons for college being a unique and established cultural experience is that most students live on campus, and being on campus, they are also living by themselves for the first time. 	Many American universities understand this reality, and so they seek to craft an experience for students to explore their newfound freedom within the context of academics and even work. Students have some of the responsibilities of a full-blown adult (taking care of their own laundry, cleaning after themselves), but other parts are supplemented by the university (in the form of dining halls). In this way, university life might be looked at as a “simplified” version of adult life. 	Unique to universities is the sense of camaraderie that can be established within a community of similarly aged peers. Because your classmates are all going through similar life experiences, and yet they might come from vastly different backgrounds (even across the globe), universities provide for an unparalleled and rather unique opportunity to meet friends in a social and lower-pressure environment. 	Finally, an aspect of US college culture that can’t be ignored: parties. College social life in the US is multifaceted and unique for all, but college parties are something that has established a bit of a reputation for themselves, and for good reason. They are an integral part of most campuses, and they are something that must be experienced to be understood. 	If you should find yourself visiting a US college in the near future, see if you can imagine what a day-in-the-life of a student might look like.
