But now, the blue bird is out of the court’s cage, and Musk is flying around, dropping big changes in his wake. In order to cut costs, Musk initiated the firing of nearly half the company, some 3,000 employees. Not long after, however, Twitter offered some dismissed employees their jobs back, claiming they were laid off by mistake. However, several advertisers <span style="12pt; font-family: Georgia; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-weight: 700; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">suspended [3] their activity on Twitter not long after Musk’s takeover, further damaging Twitter’s financial status. With less money on the books, Musk has focused on increasing Twitter’s revenues through a new subscription service, Twitter Blue, valued at $8 a month. Subscribers will receive the iconic blue checkmark to indicate their purchase. Previously, the blue checkmark was reserved only for certain accounts, such as politicians, news organizations, and more influential entities, who received the blue checkmark to “verify” their authenticity against impersonators.  Speaking of impersonators, Musk has implemented a no-nonsense impersonation policy, which would permanently suspend any account found to be parodying another. The policy came after comedian Kathy Griffin changed her account name and photo to appear as if she were Musk.  One of Musk’s primary reasons for purchasing Twitter was that he was displeased with its content moderation system. In a word, Musk’s purchase of Twitter has been messy from the beginning, all the way back in May.
