Having all the right qualifications doesn’t guarantee a job– you have to be able to tell your story compellingly to your interviewer. 

Trask focused so much on the interviewee' qualifications on their resume that he missed some warning signs in the interview.

핵심은 자기 자신을 아는 것입니다

Interviews are a means by which people get to know one another. No doubt you’ve seen it on television, celebrities being interviewed (perhaps by other celebrities), people being interviewed by hosts, and so much more. Interviews take place in lots of contexts, but the ones you’re most likely to encounter are probably job interviews, and interviews as part of a school application. That said, the key to an interview is to first know yourself-- once you’ve got that, everything ought to come naturally.  Both job and school interviews will be focused on your qualifications [1] as an individual. The goal is for the interviewer to come to understand what you bring to the table, that is to say, what you have to offer. For example, even simple prompts like “tell me about yourself,” are designed to hopefully pull more information about relevant background information. So, what’s the best way to come off as a friendly and even more importantly, desirable candidate?  After you know your purpose, the reason you’re applying for a job or a school, practice is key. Make sure you’re familiar with the iterations of the types of questions you might be asked. Although the questions “why do you want to come to this school?” and “why would you be successful as a student here?” are seemingly different, they can both be answered with a simple statement of purpose.  Finally, once you’ve done all the preparation that you feel you’re able to, the next step is to relax and ensure you’re personable [2]. When you’re speaking, don’t repeat information you’ve already written down or submitted. Instead, present a side of yourself that is only showable by means of human-to-human contact. Interviews are traditional in that way, they hope to look at your likability, your charisma, alongside characteristics of you that simply cannot be defined objectively on paper. If the interviewer likes you, and if you like them, you’re probably on the right track.
