Canada’s natural birth rate is quite low, meaning constant immigration is required to maintain and expand the existing population. Canada is an unusual country because it is wealthy in both natural resources like oil as well as human resources like Universities. Many high skilled immigrants are required to best take advantage of them! Today, we’ll list some of the many reasons why people are ready to brave the bitter cold, as well as the most common pathways to status.	While it is true that Canadians around the nation are kind and welcoming, there are many other exciting aspects of Canadian life. Life in major cities like Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, is culturally rich due to their high <span style="12pt; font-family: Georgia; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-weight: 700; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">cosmopolitanism [2], meaning a large mix of immigrants from various nations. In fact, Toronto is considered one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world, alongside London and Singapore. Canada’s mixed economy leads in industries ranging from resource mining and car manufacturing to software and cultural development, with opportunities available for people of all backgrounds.	Yet while life in cities is dynamic and exciting, rural Canada offers natural beauty and a wealth of athletic opportunities. Sports are extremely popular, with the entire nation coming together to support the Toronto Raptors in their historic 2019 NBA Championship run. The Toronto Blue Jays are another national franchise and are in good position to compete for the World Series this fall. Yet one cannot discuss Canadian sports without mentioning its national pastime—hockey. Canadians are practically born in hockey rinks and beginning in early fall public parks across the country erect temporary spaces to ice skate and play. Fierce rivalries between famous teams, such as the Montreal Canadiens and the Vancouver Canucks, have captivated the nation and led to some of sports’ fiercest moments. One of the easiest ways to obtain permanent status in Canada is through its generous educational opportunity programs. At the federal level, Canada provides all university and college graduates two years of post-graduate work status, allowing them the opportunity to find work. With a work placement, applicants may achieve Permanent Residency status, allowing access to nearly all benefits of Canadian citizenship. Within each province, there are additional immigration opportunities for graduates with advanced degrees. For example, Ontario, Canada’s most populated province, offers an <span style="12pt; font-family: Georgia; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-weight: 700; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">expedited [3] pathway to Permanent Residency in as little as one year following the completion of a master’s or PhD. One of the most appealing aspects of Canada is its generous funding of education—international students are eligible for tuition waivers and income stipends at the master’s and PhD levels, even in subjects like Studio Art or Education. Not all Canadian immigrants come through the study pathway however, and two other options are particularly common for Asian immigrants—skilled labor entry and working holiday permits. Like the name implies, entry pathways for skilled labor allow workers with advanced education, languages skills, and other employable assets to quickly earn temporary and permanent residency. Working holiday permits are seen across the <span style="12pt; font-family: Georgia; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-weight: 700; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">commonwealth nations [4] and allow holders to stay in the country for 1-2 years in order to find work or other opportunities that could lead to permanent residency. Canada’s generous policies and welcoming culture make it one of the most exciting countries to immigrate to—perhaps consider it in your travels abroad!
